Trooping the Colour 2012

Today was Trooping the Colour, the Queen’s official birthday. As usual, the balcony at Buckingham Palace was absolutely lousy with royals.

The Queen’s Family

The Queen, Prince Philip (back from the hospital after a bladder infection took him out for a week), the Prince of Wales, the Duchess of Cornwall, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince Harry, Princess Anne, Timothy Laurence, the Duke of York, Princess Beatrice, Princess Eugenie, the Earl and Countess of Wessex and Lady Louise Mountbatten-Windsor were all there.

The Gloucesters

It was a weak Gloucester showing as only the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester and their son-in-law Gary Lewis (the husband of Lady Davina, who I have not yet spotted in any pictures) showed up.

The Kents

Luckily the Kents made up for the poor showing from their cousins by coming en masse. The Duke and Duchess of Kent, the Earl and Countess of St. Andrews; Edward, Lord Downpatrick; Lady Amelia Windsor, Lord and Lady Nicholas Windsor, Albert Windsor, Lady Helen and Timothy Taylor, Columbus Taylor, Cassius Taylor, Eloise Taylor, Estella Taylor, Princess Alexandra of Kent, Zenouska Mowatt, Prince Michael and Princess Michael of Kent, Lady Frederick Windsor and Lady Gabriella Windsor all attended.

Britain's Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall (L), Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge (C) and Prince Harry travel to Horse Guards Parade for the Trooping the Colour ceremony in central London June 16, 2012. Trooping the Colour is a ceremony to honour the sovereign's official birthday.

LONDON, ENGLAND - JUNE 16: Queen Elizabeth II, accompanied by Prince Philip, The Duke of Edinburgh, leave Buckingham Palace for the Trooping the Colour ceremony at the Horse Guards Parade on June 16, 2012 in London, England. The annual ceremony, made up of more than 600 guardsmen and cavalry, is believed to have first been performed during the reign of King Charles II. The parade marked the official birthday of the Sovereign, even though the Queen's actual birthday is on April 21st.

The Thames Jubilee Pageant

Next, of course, was the Diamond Jubilee River Thames Pageant. This was the pinnacle of the celebrations. It was held on June 3rd and (in typical British weather fashion) it was cold a nd rainy. However, everyone seemed happy and glorious. There were so many royals in attendance that were not photographed that it makes it difficult to say exactly who was there. We do know the of course the Queen, the Duke of Edinburgh, the Prince of Wales, the Duchess of Cornwall, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince Harry, the Earl and Countess of Wessex, James the Viscount Severn, Lady Louise Mountbatten-Windsor, the Duke of York, Princess Beatrice of York, Princess Eugenie of York, Princess Anne and Timothy Laurence attended. The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, the Duke of Kent, Princess Alexandra of Kent, Julia Ogilvy, Alexander Ogilvy, Prince Michael of Kent, Princess Michael of Kent, Lord Frederick Windsor and Lady Frederick Windsor were also in attendance. It is also thought that the younger generation of royals were there- the children and grandchildren of the Duke of Kent, Princess Alexandra and the Duke of Gloucester.
