Happy Birthday King Carl Gustaf!

Today, King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden celebrates his 65th birthday. He was born in Haga Palace on April 30th, 1946, to Prince Gustav Adolf and Princess Sibylla. His godparents were the Crown Prince Frederick of Denmark, the Crown Princess Ingrid of Denmark, the Crown Prince Olav of Norway, Princess Juliana of the Netherlands, King Gustaf V of Sweden, Prince Friedrich Josias of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha, the Crown Prince Gustaf Adolf of Sweden (his grandfather), the Crown Princess Louise of Sweden (his step-grandmother), Count Folke Bernadotte af Wisborg and Countess Maria Bernadotte af Wisborg.

The romance began in 2000 when Mary Donaldson met the heir to one of Europe's oldest monarchies over drinks at the Sydney Olympics, where he was with the Danish sailing team.

The Dutch Royal Family at Queen’s Day

It was Queen’s Day in the Netherlands today. What’s that, you ask? Well, it’s Beatrix’s official birthday! I wish that I could have two birthdays a year. On Queen’s Day, or Koninginnedag, the Dutch Royal Family visit different cities or towns in the Netherlands and do activities in the open air.

The Queen in Cambridge

Her Maj was out in Cambridge today. I’ve had this date bookmarked for a while- Duke of Cambridge, anyone? She looked very cheerful and very patriotic.
